Positive advice for Theaterfestival Boulevard
This week, the Fonds Podiumkunsten and the Province of North Brabant announced that Theaterfestival Boulevard will also receive a subsidy for the next 4 years.
On Wednesday, July 3, the Fonds Podiumkunsten issued its advice on national cultural subsidies for the period 2025 -2028. Theaterfestival Boulevard is extremely proud of the positive advice they received. Thank you to the committee that appreciates and recognizes our work. They wrote in their advice: “The committee notes that the core values of reciprocity and resonance, for which a connection between artist and spectator is indispensable, will predominate in the coming period. The committee is positive about this emphasis on depth and commitment and sees this clearly reflected in the principles for the programming. According to the committee, Theaterfestival Boulevard distinguishes itself from other large-scale summer festivals. The committee also assesses the local embedding as very good.”
The Raad voor Cultuur also issued its positive advice about PLAN Brabant, of which Theaterfestival Boulevard is a partner. “The council sees PLAN as an important link between the art educations in Brabant and practice. Through its role in the chain, the institution is a driver for talent development in the region and beyond.”
Furthermore the Province of North Brabant announced its advice. Theaterfestival Boulevard will also receive a subsidy for the next 4 years. We thank the committee for the positive advice and this very welcome award. It's not all euphoria, though. Due to the new subsidy ceiling that the festival is confronted with, there is a worrying reduction in the subsidy amount compared to previous years. This will limit the role that Boulevard currently plays in the regional, national and international cultural field. In addition, important Boulevard partners will unfortunately lose their national and/or regional subsidies.
“These are two loaded days for the cultural sector in the Netherlands. While some people are jumping for joy, others are dealing with a great disappointment. Together we form a cultural sector where every story must be heard and every rejection has a major impact on collaborations and on the important work that is created," say directors Dana Kibbelaar and Tessa Smeulers.
