Lady Chatterley's Lover
De Warme Winkel/Florian Myjer, Lisa Verbelen, Marieke de Zwaan | NL
Flushed skin and streaks of sweat when you least expect them: blood creeps where it needs to. The noble Constance Chatterley falls with complete devotion for the messy charms of forester Oliver Mellors. For many years, D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterly’s Lover (1928) was prohibited in England due to its sexual and for that time controversial content but was secretly gobbled up under the blankets. Now, nearly 100 years later, Florian Myjer and Lisa Verbelen act out the story on behalf of the theatre company De Warme Winkel. There are still stands to be broken for openness about sex and sexuality. Take off something conservative and open your heart for this honest, hot, non-hetero-normative play.
D.H. Lawrence was never out to provoke but felt a sacred urge to speak honestly about sex and sexual preferences. He wanted to create new role models and urged his readers to come to terms with parts of themselves that they prefer to hide from the light of day. Florian Myjer and Lisa Verbelen continue their mission and reignite the fire of Lady Chatterley. With an eye on the past and both feet in the present, they take on this scandalous novel. They completely surrender to their sexuality and desires and pull Lady Chatterley’s Lover into the 21st century.
The newspaper Het Parool called them “the consistently most exciting theatre company of our time.”: theatre company De Warme Winkel loves to operate at the cutting edge of social and artistic issues. History and literature are often sources of inspiration for plays that focus on the present with the inventors on stage as master storytellers. After an increasingly intensive collaboration, Florian Myjer joined the artistic core of De Warme Winkel on 1 January 2021. Lady Chatterley’s Lover is his first performance with the company in that capacity and his last performance with Frascati Productions. He wrote the play together with Marieke de Zwaan and Lisa Verbelen. We have seen Florian Myjer twice before at our festival, during which he was a great success and immediately captivated the audience with his acting. In 2019, he played with Kim Karssen in Bloomsbury and in 2018, he played in Oliver.
"Lady Chatterley's Lover is a vulnerable, provoking and important performance about love, lust, exclusion, and inclusion."
- Theaterkrant"Lady Chatterley's Lover turns out to be a wildly intelligent indictment of the heterosexual norm, which eventually leads to an ode to love and sex that is not limited by social norms."
