DUKEBOX x Cypher HQ presents: Kromanti

Under the wings of ISH Dance Collective, Dietrich Pott takes the audience on a journey through Suriname. With breakdance as a starting point, through Afro-dance and traditional African dance styles, Pott tells a story from the Afro-Surinamese Winti faith. In the imaginative and colorful family performance Kromanti, a group of dancers search for their spirit to the rhythms of self-performed live percussion. The performance is for 10+.

Dietrich Pott traveled to Suriname and Africa and spent two months researching traditional African dance styles. Inspired by the experiences during this trip, Pott developed a new style of dance: Afro-Breakdance. The Afro Surinamese secret ritual language Kromanti, which Pott learned in Suriname, aroused his interest. He translated this religion and the atmosphere of the villages into colorful scenes in the mysterious performance Kromanti.

“Kromanti is the spirit of the air and it really belongs to me. When I dance, I hang in the air a lot, I like to fly, to throw my whole body into it.”

Cast
The talented and strong cast consists of two dancers from Suriname. Also featured are the Dutch Luciano Hiwat (winner Red Bull Dance Your Style x Rolling Loud 2023), Jean 'ShinShan' Salazar Tavera (winner Red Bull BC One Cypher Netherlands 2024 and featured in the new series H3L on Videoland) and Giorgio Prijor (winner Red Bull Dance Your Style Netherlands 2023) on stage.

Maker Dietrich 'Dietje' Pott
B-Boy Dietrich 'Dietje' Pott is one of the absolute top. He made his mark in the battle scene and in the theater. His power moves and talent contributed to breakdancing becoming a full-fledged art form. Five years ago, Pott took his first steps as a maker. A clear handwriting is visible in his work, which is strongly related to his explosive and spectacular breaking style and his Surinamese roots. Kromanti was created under the banner ISH Talent.
