It really hurts when your head hits the concrete
DeRonde/Deroo | NL/BE
A man drags his friend with him as a rag doll. A 70-kilo body tied to him. Together they try to find a way, with the rag doll serving as a Swiss army knife: multi-purposed. Tap its head and water pours out or climb it as a watchtower when you are searching for the right direction. But what if your friend suddenly does not want to go any further?
It really hurts when your head hits the concrete humorously and poetically embodies that we all have a history. In this performance, the duo DeRonde/Deroo zoom in on the inner conversations in the head of a man and his resistant friend. You are immersed in an absurd world where the weight you carry with you is imagined. Expect an iconoclasm that reads like a poem and takes you past acrobatic highlights.
DeRonde/Deroo is the collective founded by Tom de Ronde and Nick Deroo. They studied at the Amsterdam School of the Arts where they bonded over their love for cinematic theatre. Using only their bodies, they create absurd surreal worlds with their own rules and laws. Sometimes terrifying, sometimes funny.
It really hurts when your head hits the concrete won the audience award at this year's Café Theater Festival in Arnhem. With their performance After The Echo, DeRonde/Deroo won the Best of Fringe Award 2021.
It really hurts when your head hits the concrete will premiere on Friday 2 August at 20.30 pm during Boulevard.
