shoe/farm - prelude

buren | BE

One grew up on a farm in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The other in a shoe shop along the Belgian coast. In glass slippers and sturdy boots, the theatre company buren travels through different times, from pre-industrial to the era of internet shopping.

Location Verkadefabriek/Grote zaal
Running time 50 min.
Genre Installatie, Muziektheater, Theater

After the performance SPARE TIME WORK (Boulevard 2022), buren continues their exploration of social roles and power relations. This time, the duo hoists themselves in ropes, ripped jeans and delicate lace curtains. On the farm, their worn-out trousers are a sign of hard work. In the city, they are a fashion statement.

As 'daughters of', they put on their ancestors’ shoes and intertwine them with their own experiences and fantasies. In a role-play between fact and fiction and with a nod to the typical West Flemish work ethic, they try to Chanel-len their inner Balance-iage and highlight the relationship between customer and seller, producer and product.

Buren was also featured on Boulevard last year, with their performance T-shirt Conversations they showed the multiformity of their humour.
