Dance is not for us
Omar Rajeh/Maqamat | LB
In his autobiographical performance Dance is not for us, Lebanese dancer Omar Rajeh takes you to his personal universe. Amid hundreds of basil plants, he dances in resistance to existing structures of power.
Omar Rajeh speaks about an intimate past that no longer exists. A past that does not have a future anymore. The images, meanings, feelings, people and happy moments are silenced. The memories faded as if he lives in a world that is unfamiliar with a past, as if the connection between his past and present are broken.
‘It might have been weird on many levels that I chose dance in a country that was coming out of a civil war, destruction, death, and loss. However, dance at the time seemed to be the most revolutionary, the most provocative, and the most confrontational.’ – Omar Rajeh
Dance is not for us has it Dutch premiere during Boulevard on Saturday the 3rd of August.
