Studio Cité: Inter-face
Benjamin Vandewalle | BE
Studio Cité is a collection of all installations and projects by choreographer Benjamin Vandewalle at one place in the city. Between the 7th and 11th of August, the choreographer will appear on the Parkpodium in the Zuiderpark with his installations Peri-sphere XL and Inter-face.
With Studio Cité, Benjamin Vandewalle forms what he calls an art fair, a playground for the human perspective. His installations cause encounters, conversations and the exchange of experiences and ideas.
Studio Cité challenges us to use the senses in a different way when we enter the public space. The way we perceive influences the way we act in that space and how we shape this space. The installations and performances part of Studio Cité force us to observe and experience the space and its surroundings in our own way. The need for interaction is what connects the installations; an audience to activate the installations and to share experiences.
By choreographing our gaze, Benjamin Vandewalle makes us aware of the unseen potential present in public space. He invites us to broaden our view.
Installation
In Inter–face two gazes are confronted with each other. The French philosopher Emmanuel Levinas stated that it is impossible to avoid the gaze of a stranger. The impossibility of avoiding the gaze is the subject. The installation is divided by a transparent mirror that transforms from transparent to reflective. We observer ourself while the other slowly appears.
For adults but also for children from the age of eight.
