Elmer  
The rapper Elmer is the alter-ego of actress and theatre-maker Merel Pauw. With Elmer, Merel wants to combine her love of hip-hop with uncensored rawness, disarming honesty and the colourful visual world of comic books. In doing so, she wants to create a place for women and gender non-confirming artists in the hip-hop scene. From a love of Peaches and De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, among others, Elmer's music is a combination of electronic, funky beats and lyrics with a hefty dose of humour and self-mockery. And while on the surface it may seem dom, lomp en famous, it's not just mocking that rings the bell. The songs also allow room for honesty about heavier topics like commitment anxiety, panic attacks and self-hatred. Elmer is deliberately an alter-ego: as this gives Merel complete freedom to magnify sides of herself, without mincing words. How else would you come up with lyrics like 'ik neuk je vader zonder condoom'?   

Vieze Meisje  
Vieze Meisje is mostly exploring the boundaries of the genre 'Poetronics' by combining punk, poetry, rave and chanson. Her performances manifest themselves as an energetic search for where the brutal and the vulnerable meet and where the grand and the small intertwine. At first, you think you have arrived at a funky techno DJ's house when the tunes - produced by musician and partner in punk Azertyklavierwerke - fill the air. But as soon as Vieze Meisje - Maya Martens' alter-ego - fills those tunes with her poetic rap, the music takes on a different, deeper charge.
