Something Else (8+)
Collectief MAMM | NL
In the acrobatic dance performance Something else, five young dancers investigate the 'Never enough' generation, people in their twenties with great ambitions who hardly ever sit still and use their perseverance to achieve individual success. How do we relate to others? Can we work together, can we stop and slow down, or are we, as a generation, destined for an endless and lonely race?
In Something else, the five dancers go in search of their own successes. The Never Enough generation is driven by the need to become successful at a young age. Sometimes behind other’s back, but often also by working together. They join forces to make things happen and are aware of the problems that are bigger than themselves. If we do not do it, who will? This drive for success creates ambition, resourcefulness and perseverance among this young group, but also a lot of pressure and increasing burnouts. Can they achieve greater things with this ambition or are they too busy with themselves?
Inspired by ant colonies that can build bridges with their own bodies, the dancers of Something else search for the chafing between the individual and the collective. When do you use someone to your advantage and how can you work together to get somewhere? By making human bridges, they investigate where in the body it is possible to support, stand, lift, climb and walk.
Collective MAMM makes work about, for and by people in their twenties. Something they can identify with and feel involved with. Their concepts are always rooted in how they view the world today as young adults to provide insight into a generation that is still often misunderstood. Programmer Stephan Bikker tips Collective MAMM: “Collective MAMM from Amsterdam consists of people in their twenties. They convincingly show what concerns their generation.”
On Friday 4 and Saturday 5 August there will be an introduction from 20.00h - 20.30h prior to the performance at 21.00h.
'The choreographies are hypnotic from start to finish. This permeates both the music (somewhere the soundscape resembles soft singing reverberating in a valley) and the infinite variations of movement (…) Collective MAMM launches, dives, balances and catches.'
