Workshop Stadshofje

A small village will arise in the lee of the Zuiderpark during the festival. A village with several wooden houses around a square. Stichting Stadshout builds a foundation with sustainable wood from the area and then it is the turn of our audience. 

Under the guidance of professional carpenters, we invite you to come and build. We will saw and hammer the houses and their components (doors, windows, chairs and stools) using traditional methods - i.e. with minimal use of electrical devices. The youngest kids can paint pictures on wooden panels from the day's leftover materials.    

At the end of the festival, we will celebrate the result together!   

In the wooden play village, accessibility is the starting point; we build in such a way that it is widely accessible and wheelchair-friendly.  

About Stichting Stadshout   

Stadshout works hard to process as many trees as possible that have to be cut down within the municipal boundaries into furniture or lumber. They like to see the results of this return to the city and its residents.     

For the village, they use the poplar wood from fallen trees during the 2021 storm from the municipality of Den Bosch.  Trees that would otherwise be disposed of at fuelwood prices for the wood fibre industry are cut into usable material. This way, Stadshout keeps the locally growing 'green capital' around its roots and gives trees a second life with accompanying memories.   

In 2021, Theaterfestival Boulevard and Stichting Stadshout already collaborated on a woodworking workshop with the Parade's cut down trees. For sixteen days, children hammered away in the Zuiderpark: aeroplanes, cars and stools were taken home.    

Practical   

It is possible to register on site on the day itself so there is opportunity for arriving visitors to join. Work takes place every afternoon from 13:00 - 17:00. Free admission after that.
