MARIA MARIA MARIA
De Veenfabriek | NL
MARIA MARIA MARIA is an acclaimed and human imagination of the most famous Mother in the world and her children. Doubt, comfort, travail; sublime interpreter Jacobien Elffers plays Mary, the Mother of all.
MARIA MARIA MARIA tells the story of Mary's life and that of her children. Inspired by the stories from the Bible and the Koran, personal stories of the musicians and songs about bizarre medieval wonders.
“Many people have trouble with the institution of the Church, but Mary seems to be separate from it. How is that possible? She embodies the pure and loving. She is sweet and soft, but also tough and strong” – Jacobien Elffers (interpreter of Maria).
The musicians of the Veenfabriek are inspired by a rich history of Marian songs from the Middle Ages and early Christianity. From the 13th century Cantigas de Santa Maria from Spain that tell of the startling miracles of Mary, to old Marian songs from Syria in Aramaic, the language in which Jesus spoke according to lore.
With percussion, electronics, guitar, clarinet, trombone, viola and the enchanting vocals of the Moroccan singer Anass Habib, the musicians party, dance and play like modern pilgrims for the mother.
This performance is accessible to everyone regardless of your beliefs or doubts and is not intended to convince anyone of anything.
For adults, but also fun for children from 12 years.
“Actress Jacobien Elffers performs nothing less than a small miracle.”
