The Weight of Water

In The Weight of Water, the floating staircase Triomf by visual artist and architect Rob van Dam returns as the decor for a dance/circus performance at a special location on the water. 

The world wobbles. Politicians endlessly discuss solutions which each other and allow themselves to be tempted into a power game that only knows losers. On the tilting staircase, towering six meters above sea level, the six performers must immediately react to each other's movements and those of the staircase. If one person moves, it affects the others. This search for balance shows the pursuit of power, but also shows the dependence on each other and other uncontrollable elements. How do the individuals develop when under pressure? Who rises above the others? Who seizes power? Who makes covenants or undermines them? 

Further in the water floats a plateau with composer and musician Davide Bellotta and singer and trumpeter iET. Together they play a piece of music specially composed for The Weight of Water, interchanged with text fragments from politicians' speeches. 

Previously, the staircase was part of Bosch Parade, the parade of floating works of art inspired by Jheronimus Bosch. 

The special outdoor location of this performance is the Engelermeer.

This performance is low-stimulus. You can take the bus to the location Engelermeer, this bus ride however might not be low-stimulus. The bus to Engelermeer departs 45 minutes before the performance.

The performance of Sunday 6 August is cancelled due to the rainfall which makes it impossible to dance. On Wednesday 9 August en Thursday 10 August there are extra performances in the afternoon at 15.30h.

This special, longer version of The Weight of Water by Panama Pictures/Bosch Parade will premiere on Saturday the 5th of August at 19:00h.
