SOTTOBOSCO
Chiara Bersani | IT
SOTTOBOSCO's starting point was when Italian choreographer Chiara Bersani was in a forest when a lockdown was declared. There she reflected on the accessibility of nature for people with a physical impairments. Bersani, who is confined to a wheelchair herself, has a different access to nature than the fellow artists with whom she was there and for whom 'back to nature' means something different than to her. How could people with disabilities survive in a forest? Or, should we imagine 'nature' differently? SOTTOBOSCO, undergrowth, is her answer to that question.
A group of children with a disability gets lost in the woods. Or perhaps, they have been abandoned. Perhaps the forest, one day, simply grew around it. What could happen? What will become of their bodies? Their hearts, wheelchairs and crutches? What will their eyes look at? What language will they speak? And whoever happens to find them, how would they approach them? Based on these questions, Chiara Bersani creates an impressive agile performance together with experience experts with a mobile disability.
Chiara Bersani returns to Boulevard with her performance SOTTOBOSCO. She previously presented her work on Boulevard: Seeking Unicorns in 2019 and The Whales Song in 2021.
SOTTOBOSCO is part of Lijn73, in which we work with makers who have or want to develop a special commitment to the city. This year these makers also seek out specific groups as audiences or co-makers in projects. This way Theaterfestival Boulevard continues to delve into and connect with the city and its inhabitants.
Workshop
A few days prior to the performance, Bersani enters into a collaborative process with experts by experience - people with a physical disability - from Den Bosch and the surrounding area. Are you interested in participating in this workshop or would you like to inform someone about this?
