Nasib Katong Dua (Ons Lot)
ART&/Cheroney Pelupessy | NL
In Nasib Katong Dua, two descendants of mixed origins search for their own identity. Both are partly Dutch, partly Indonesian or Moluccan. Their dance, with traditional cultural and modern influences, reflects their own personal journey. When the future is uncertain, can you feel at home somewhere?
In Nasib Katong Dua, dancers Cheroney Pelupessy and Jefta Tanate meet. They share their experiences and emotions and thus create a place for fine resemblances, movements, language, family stories, upbringing, rituals and habits. It gives a sense of connection, support and togetherness. On the other hand, it creates friction. The Indonesian and Moluccan culture are known to avoid confrontation and to conceal emotional subjects. In that respect, a reflection of your own flaws - that you have received from home - can be very confrontational.
“Boulevard is a place where art that does not necessarily fit into a box is performed. Something that is not strange to us: we have always had to adapt to our environment. Here we can take off that social mask and show our most vulnerable side. Including the fraternization that it can cause, but also the friction.” — Cheroney Pelupessy.
Cheroney Pelupessy's Nasib Katong Dua will premiere on Boulevard on Friday, August 4 at 7:45 PM.
