Om de hoek woont een struik
Sonja van Ojen & Hendrik Kegels | NL/BE
Before the audience’s eyes, a huge paper model of a sleeping city comes to life. Wordless, playful, absurdist and visual theatre.
The audience sits around a huge paper model of a sleeping city. The day dawns, the dustbin blows over, crocuses open. Some other protagonists: the maple tree, the lampposts, the public toilet, the beetles and the kiosk on the square. This world of dancing Flats and flirting Weeping Willows does not need people to celebrate. Sonja van Ojen [1996] and Hendrik Kegels [1996] make playful, absurdist visual theatre. At the same time they are maniacal in their dedication and precision. Building the model took six months. With Om de hoek woont een struik they won the BNG bank Theaterprijs 2020 and reached the selection for the Nederlands Theater Festival 2021.
