Vuur/toren (6+)
Laika & hetpaleis/Michai Geyzen | BE
They are the last three lighthouse keepers in the world. Does only the sea still love them? A tragicomic youth theatre performance about light in the dark.
In their tower they keep a fire burning. At ungodly hours, full moon or spring tide. That requires sacrifice, but they help people and that feels good. The trio keeps each other going with conjuring rituals, flag dances and a capella songs - from Britney Spears to The Spice Girls. But who will guide them to a safe haven when they are old or tired or sick? How long will they keep the fire in their hearts burning?
Laika is strong stuff. Because those who know the tide book of these Antwerp creators know that both their slapstick and melancholy always reach a high level. Director Michai Geyzen [1983] is not afraid of the tide either, although in his Vuur/toren (Fire/Tower) the wind force increases very worryingly. Will the three men hold out? Geyzen has previously enjoyed success with his productions Über-ich - winner of the youth jury prize at TAZ, a leading festival in Ostend - and De passant, which was shown at Boulevard 2021.
