Meetings between makers and fellow townspeople

Theaterfestival Boulevard continues to delve into and connect with the city and its residents. In Lijn73 we work with makers who have or want to develop a special involvement with the city. Also this year they will get to work within a number of projects with specific groups such as the public or co-makers .

71BODIES / Daniel Mariblanca

In 2023, choreographer Daniel Mariblanca will create a performance based on the lives of the dancers themselves – children, teenagers and adults – who, like Daniel, are transgender.

WORKSHOP A TRUE STORY BY DANIEL MARIBLANCA
Prior to his performance, Daniel invites transgender people, queer people, dancers, choreographers and visual artists to celebrate being trans, queer, identity and uniqueness with him in a 3-day workshop in which dance and movement are central. In addition to applying a multifaceted approach to expression, he will also share key insights and techniques developed during the production time of A True Story. Participants also get the chance to play in one of the performances in 's-Hertogenbosch!

Chiara Bersani

Choreographer Chiara Bersani will perform on Boulevard this year with an impressive new movement performance about the relationship of people with disabilities to nature.

The Italian, who herself has a physical disability, likes to work from possibilities of the limited. In a 3-day workshop she shares her insights with people of different bodies, experiences and ages. The participants will explore by means of movement and expression how their bodies relate to the environment and to each other. Here too, participants can take part in her performance on Boulevard!

Minoux

With Papa was a Rolling Stone MINOUX presents her research into the relationship between father and son. After the mothers in the performance Teach me your mother's dance from 2021, it is now the fathers' turn.

Last year, Minou Bosua talked to the sons of the city about their fathers, including at the Koning Willem 1 College. Who are they anyway? A role model, or a man you don't even know how to spell his name? And the fathers also speak, singing well.

In addition to Boulevard, this project is also supported by the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch and Theater aan de Parade.

Corpo Maquina Society

Actors, musicians and freerunners work during Boulevard in BBS De Kruiskamp with children from 's-Hertogenbosch West. The project also landed there last year, but then the ball was central. Now a mix of acrobatics and sports on/under/over/along walls, benches, bike racks, etc.

With It takes a Child to raise a Village Corpo Máquina Society has started a multi-year trajectory with projects in which adult performers are instructed to put the children at the center and to serve their proposals and curiosity. The conviction of Corpo Máquina: young people can change society.

For five days the BBS gym opens at 3 p.m. for everyone from 8 years old and play begins. Which continues as visitors arrive at 4.30 pm Boulevard to witness this excess of creativity and fun.

Bart van Dongen

The Aanhaakfanfare connects in an accessible way the inhabitants of 's-Hertogenbosch. City composer Bart van Dongen collects musicians – in the broadest sense of the word  and compositions, to let them flow together in the composition Bossche Klanken . Everyone can provide ideas through a melody, a sound poem, a drawing, a series of chords, an 'instructions for use', a sound recording; everything is possible. For ten days, this Aanhaak Fanfare grows with new participants.

The grande finale is on the last day of Boulevard.

iona&rineke

The installation Kunnen stenen je zachter maken? was made on the basis of my own experiences with being sick and contact with experienced pen pals, consisting of sick and caring people.

Kunnen stenen je zachter maken? is part of the Sick Years; a project by music theater company iona&rineke that they are creating in 2023 and 2024 around the theme of being sick. With these projects, the company wants to reflect with the public on questions about being sick and the right to health.

Schippers&VanGucht

Makers' collective Schippers&VanGucht and Boulevard have an ongoing conversation about broad accessibility of their work. In recent years, various experience experts have inspired a different way of thinking and acting.

For the performance ODE (seen at the festival), Schippers&VanGucht collaborated intensively with (performers of) Theaterwerkplaats Tiuri, but also consulted deaf experts and tested them with wheelchair users. All experiences led to a richer and more inclusive creative process.
